Signs it's time

When a heat pump makes sense

Your AC and furnace are both aging

Replacing two systems with one usually costs about the same as a new AC plus furnace, and the utility rebate often tips it in favor of the heat pump.

Your utility pays a rebate

LADWP, Burbank Water and Power, Glendale Water and Power and Pasadena Water and Power each run programs. SCE funds are reserved right now; we watch for new rounds.

Glendale replacement rule

Glendale is expected to require a heat pump or efficiency measures when a central AC is replaced in a home, from about December 18, 2026.

Rebuilding or going all-electric

New homes and fire rebuilds, especially in Altadena, are often designed all-electric from the start.

Before you call: planning a heat pump?

  1. Check your utility The rebate depends on the utility on your electric bill, not the city name.
  2. Photo the labels Shoot the furnace label and the main electrical panel so the quote covers both.
  3. Keep the furnace for now Some programs pay only when a gas system is replaced, so wait for the terms.

FAQ

Heat pumps: answers from our techs

Something else on your mind? Call (818) 351-1443 and a real person picks up.

Is the in-home estimate free?

Yes. A replacement estimate is free: we measure the house, run a Manual J load calculation and give you a fixed written price with any utility rebate spelled out.

Which brands do you install?

All major brands, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric and Fujitsu. We recommend equipment by your home's load calculation, budget and rebate rules, and quote two or three options in writing.

Do heat pumps work in Los Angeles winters?

Yes. Modern heat pumps heat efficiently well below freezing, and observed winter lows at stations across our area average about 42 to 52°F.

How much is the LADWP heat pump rebate?

Up to $2,500 per ton for qualifying equipment purchased and installed from November 1, 2025, depending on SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings. Applications are due within 12 months.

How much does Burbank Water and Power pay?

$1,000 per ton, up to $5,000, when a heat pump replaces a gas system, plus $750 for a needed electrical panel upgrade. Program amounts change; we confirm before you buy.

Is the federal 25C tax credit still available?

No. The 25C credit ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. Local utility rebates are now the main incentive.

Will I need a bigger electrical panel?

Sometimes. Older LA homes often have 60 to 100 amp panels. We check the load first; many installs fit without an upgrade.
