About HVAC service in Sun Valley

Airwork serves Sun Valley with AC repair and replacement, furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and maintenance, by technicians licensed under CSLB #1148919. Sun Valley is 4.3 miles from our Burbank base, inside the fast zone: typical arrival is 45 to 65 minutes for same-day calls.

About Sun Valley homes

Sun Valley borders Burbank to the northwest, so it is one of our closest service areas. Most homes are single-family houses on larger lots, about half of them owner-occupied, many with older gas furnaces and roof-mounted or side-yard AC units that are due for replacement.

Sun Valley mixes residential streets with industry. Most homes are one-story houses from the 1940s through the 1960s on larger lots than in much of the Valley, some zoned for horses near Shadow Hills. Between neighborhoods sit gravel yards, recycling operations and light industry, under the flight paths of Hollywood Burbank Airport. The Verdugo Mountains rise to the east, where the 2017 La Tuna fire burned close to homes.

That setting brings dust. Outdoor coils here can load up quickly with fine grit from yards and unpaved lots, and filters clog faster than in quieter areas. Roof-mounted package units, common here, take full sun and wind and wear out sooner than ground units. Larger lots sometimes hold a back house or a converted garage with its own wall unit. Aircraft noise near the airport keeps windows shut on many summer days, so systems run longer. Homes near the mountains also get ash and smoke in fire season, which adds to the filter load.

We plan for the dust first: regular coil cleaning, better filters and sealed returns that do not pull air from the attic or garage. When equipment is due for replacement, a heat pump with LADWP's rebate often makes sense, and roof units can move to the ground where the lot allows.

Some streets have older homes with gas floor furnaces or wall heaters and no ducts at all. Those houses are good candidates for ductless heat pumps, which add cooling and replace the old heater at once. On larger lots, the condenser can often sit farther from the house and neighbors. That placement keeps noise down but needs a longer refrigerant line, which we plan for. Older electrical panels are common in homes that have not been updated, and we check them before any heat pump quote.

5-minute check

Before you call: AC blowing warm air?

  1. Thermostat on Cool Set it a few degrees below room temperature, and replace its batteries if the screen is faint.
  2. Swap a dirty filter A gray, clogged filter starves airflow and can freeze the indoor coil.
  3. Reset the breaker once If the AC breaker trips again, leave it off and call us.

LADWP rebates and Sun Valley permits

Up to $2,500 per ton for qualifying heat pumps purchased and installed from November 1, 2025. The amount depends on SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings.

Standard high-efficiency AC equipment earns a much smaller rebate, around $100 to $120 per ton.

Permits for Sun Valley addresses: LA Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). California requires a permit for a new or replacement central system, and most replacements also need a HERS test. We handle both.

LADBS issues express permits online, with no plan check, for replacing an AC with one of the same size and type and for adding equipment of 5 tons or less, so a standard change-out permit can be issued the day it is requested. Systems that need plan review go through ePlanLA.
